A little history: Front 40 Press started as a collaborative eBook podium, a virtual publisher only online, back in 2004. It was envisioned as a vehicle to bring together the talent around us- people who we feel have something to offer to the rest of the world. We wanted to give them an avenue to speak and be heard, to share and to grow, to cultivate and communicate ideas.
What matters most is the cultivation and communication of ideas.
The result of these collaborative explorations turned out, at least in our minds, to be too good merely to end up as a virtual body of work. It is our belief that if we find something to be valuable, interesting, thought-provoking, or entertaining then there will certainly be others who feel the same way, so we turned our efforts to publishing these online projects into tangible, well crafted books. Our printed matter hit the streets in 2007 with the release of Graffitecture and our debut at P.S. 1 MoMA’s Fine Print: Alternative Media series.
So here we are, a few more years into it, with 9 award-winning books you can hold in your hands. We hope you value them as we do. Along the way we have also curated and presented exhibitions, such as the large survey Signs of the Apocalypse/Rapture at Hyde Park Art Center, realized activist projects like Green Dynamite and Point of Contact, thrown some wild release parties and learned the business of publishing in this ever-changing paradigm called contemporary life.
